Comedian Jeff Dye, who was charged with a DUI in early October, revealed that he has managed to remain sober for the past five weeks.

“I’m an alcoholic,” Dye stated during an episode of the podcast Smoochie Town. “I have 36 days sober now.”

“I drank every single night, but just for fun,” he said. “I was a very high-functioning alcoholic forever. Like 20 years never affected my life negatively at all.”

“I watch sports around 5:00 p.m. This is my day everyday. Well, back then and still a little bit now, but 5:00,” Dye added.

Dye discussed how his nightly drinking routine he has followed since 2005, involved watching Monday Night Football, or whatever sports game is shown on television, meeting his friends at the bar and spending time together while also socializing.

After talking about this routine, Dye elaborated on what happened on the morning of his DUI.

“So my ex [Kristin Cavallari] was like, ‘Hey, meet me at 9:00 a.m., dude,” Dye recalled.

Dye received the text on the night before he went to meet Cavallari. He stated that he was partying and drinking with 15 people at his house before going to bed at 12:45 a.m.

“And then I woke up late because I slept through my alarm,” Dye recalled. “I jumped in the cold shower, I put a hat on, I just got in my Tesla, and Teslas are very fast, and so I just lost control of my car and crashed it.”

According to Dye, he was not drunk, but as soon as he crashed, he worriedly thought to himself that there may have still been alcohol in his system.

He also admitted to being overwhelmed and not knowing what to do. His first instinct was to run away.

“So I just ran from the car. Like, I literally ran,” Dye mentioned.

“And the people were like, ‘Are you ok? We called the police,'” he recalled. “And I’m like, ‘I’m alright, I’m coming right back. I’m just rattled.'”

Dye shared he was conflicted on whether he would come back to get his Tesla later or get some coffee and wait an hour so that the alcohol would get through his system a bit more.

He was worried that once he crashed, he would face the consequences.

“So that happened,” Dye continued. “And then they arrested me at a coffee shop in front of my ex, in front of everyone at the coffee shop too. It was wildly humiliating.”

Dye claimed that the coffee shop was a mile away from the accident.

Back in March, Cavallari admitted that she had broken up with guys over text in the past, particularly whenever it felt like the relationships were going nowhere. She mentioned she had currently been trying to break up with an unknown man.

Dye was charged with a DUI on October 8. After witnesses called police about the crash, authorities responded at 9:30 a.m. He was arrested by the Burbank Police Department in California at 9:56 a.m., and was then sent to the Burbank Jail prior to being released without bail two hours later.
