On Thursday, Geoffrey Paschel was sentenced to 18 years in prison without parole after being convicted of aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault and interference with emergency calls. Paschel was found guilty and has been held in custody in Knoxville, Tennessee since October 2021.

Paschel was known for an appearance on the series 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days and got engaged to Varya Malina at the end, but his legal issues began coming up as the season aired in 2020, and he was not invited to the series’ tell-all reunion.

The charges stem from a June 2019 incident where Paschel attacked his ex-fiancée, Kristen Wilson after police responded to a domestic disturbance at her home. Wilson said Paschel grabbed her by the neck and slammed her head against a wall a few times, and threw and dragged her on the floor.

Wilson also testified that Paschel took her cell phone and stopped her from leaving the house. Wilson said she could only escape after pretending to be asleep for long enough and then ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911. Prosecutors also called Paschel’s ex-wife, Allison Moon, as a witness. Moon claimed that Paschel attacked her in several ways, and it was the main reason she decided to leave him with their child.

Paschel testified that Wilson was intoxicated during the incident and that she caused her wounds by running into a door, and his attorneys claimed that Wilson’s reported injuries should have been worse if the assault she described was accurate.

Judge Kyle Hixon handed out the sentence, on the high end of the 12 to 20-year  range Paschel was up for. Hixon said the 18-year sentence was fair given the “sadistic” actions the plaintiff displayed.

Paschel’s attorney Gregory Isaacs has stated that he will appeal the decision. A motion for a new trial was set for March 24.
