Rumors have been running wild online that popstar Britney Spears has lost control of her social media accounts yet again.

Amid this speculation, her husband Sam Asghari has opened up about Spears taking a step back from social media as a whole.

“Social media can be traumatizing. Sometimes it’s good to take a break. She has her voice and is a free woman. I have respect for her privacy, and I protect it at all times,” Asghari wrote in an Instagram story on Wednesday.

The social media posts were written in bold white on top of a black panel.

Asghari also thanked fans for their continued support while doubling down on his respect for Spear’s privacy. “Out of respect for her privacy, I don’t post her 247. I ask for permission if I ever do,” he noted.

He then provided an explanation for why fans do not usually see the two together at red-carpet events.

“For my job, I have to attend many events. It would be my honor if she joins. For her, those things are not fun. They’re hectic and full of stress,” Asghari wrote. “Especially, since she’s been doing these things since eight years old. Plus she already slayed every single one she has been to.”

Many fans, though, have said they have ample reason to be worried. Followers have voiced concern over the Instagram Live clip where Asghari begins filming Spears without the star’s permission.

Speculation of Spears losing control of her accounts began after a tribute to her estranged sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, was posted on the popstar’s birthday, which seemed particularly odd given that the two are known to be fighting.

Recently, the ‘Toxic’ singer has deactivated her Instagram account six times. She also deactivated her account in October and August leaving many wondering about her mental state.

Spears has not commented on why the deactivation occurred this time around, though back in August she wrote to Twitter that “I’m learning every day is a clean slate to try and be a better person and do what makes me happy … yes I choose happiness today.”
