Corrections Officer Vicky White Dead In Manhunt Of Murder Suspect Casey White
Former Alabama corrections officer Vicky White is dead from injuries after helping a prisoner who she had a “special relationship” with escape.
Vicky White, 56, was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted gunshot wounds and passed away at a hospital on Monday. At the time of her death, Vicky White had been charged with forgery, identity theft and permitting or facilitating escape in the first degree. Casey White, 38, was taken back into custody following a car chase in Evansville, Indiana, which marked the end of an 11-day manhunt.
“He will be in a cell by himself,” Lauderdale Country, Alabama, Sheriff Rick Singleton said. “He will stay in handcuffs and shackles while he’s in that cell and if he wants to sue me for violating his civil rights, so be it. He’s not getting out of this jail again. I’ll assure you that.”
On April 29, Vicky White carried out a meticulously planned out scheme to flee with accused murderer Casey White, who was serving a 75-year sentence. They are not related.
She sold her house at an undervalued price, bought an escape car and arranged to break the prisoner out of jail when she knew her colleagues were tied up at the courthouse. She had reported that she was taking the prisoner for a mental health evaluation at the courthouse and then going to get medical care for him to give the pair a head start.
“This escape was obviously well planned and calculated,” Singleton said. “A lot of preparation went into this. They had plenty of resources, had cash, had vehicles, had everything they needed to pull this off, and that’s what made this last week and a half so challenging. We were starting from ground zero, and not only that, we started – they got a six-hour head start on us.”
Singleton added that Vicky had been a trusted employee and that he was unsure if they would ever receive an answer on what happened to change her.
