A recent interaction with a fan prompted Ariana Grande to write a passionate letter on Twitter showing her disgust for the objectification of women.

ARIANA GRANDE SPEAKS OUT AGAINST OBJECTIFICATION

She describes how she was out with her boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller when a fan of his showed up and was very enthusiastic about meeting Miller. At the end of their interaction, as they were trying to leave, the fan said, “Ariana is sexy as hell, man; I see you, I see you hitting that.”

Grande describes how that comment made her feel sick like she was worth nothing more than to belong to a man for his pleasure. “Things like this happen all the time and are the kinds of moments that contribute to women’s sense of fear and inadequacy,” she eloquently put it. “I am not a piece of meat that a man gets to utilize for his please. I’m an adult human being in a relationship with a man who treats me with love and respect.”

She continued on about how many young women feel shame about their bodies and says how sad it is that young people feel so comfortable using this type of language. She rounded it off with a message to all the women out there – “We are not objects or prizes. We are QUEENS.”

After posting the essay, Grande tweeted a few more messages to respond to some of the haters who basically said she is asking for it because of the way she dresses and acts in her videos. “Expressing sexuality in art is not an invitation for disrespect !!! Just like wearing a short skirt is not asking for assault.”
