Sasha Lazard On Her New Album 'Lumiere,' Her Favorite Designers
Sasha Lazard's latest album is titled Lumiere, an instrumentally diverse pop album that mixes Lazard’s operatic voice with electronic elements, as well as her own lyrics. Lazard wasn’t always well versed in songwriting. Because her true roots lie in classical music, Lazard is relatively new to songwriting. “I collaborated with a lot of people to help me get through the process," Lazard told uInterview. "Once I sat down with an experienced songwriter, he helped me so much with coming up with the words. I certainly would not have been able to do it without him.”
Apart from her love of music, Lazard is also known as muse in the fashion industry. Her favorite designers include Elie Saab and Dries Van Noten. "I have been lucky enough to be able to borrow some of their beautiful clothes," Lazard said.
Lumiere is currently available on iTunes and Amazon.
Well, I collaborated with a lot of people to help me get through the process. Once I sat down with an experienced songwriter, he helped me and asked me a lot of questions - how I was feeling about my father? And if I could write something for him? He helped me so much with coming up with the words. I certainly would not have been able to do it without him. After sitting down and having a real session with him, it made it so much easier and allowed me to do it myself.
I think the two I love the most are The Marshmallow Tree and Lumiere. I feel the most passion for those two, but I love every song on the album for different reasons. Those are the two I love performing live.
I would say it all comes from my classical background - the world I grew up in. Every song I create - there is no limitation to it. I'm not trying to take anyone's style. I just write whatever appeals to me. Every song is kind of different.
Yes, when I make an album, it is kind of like the way I make my live performances, which is very collaborative, involving musicians I respect and love. It's just musicians that I admire. We get together and see what happens. Whenever I do a live performance, I have to have a guest artist. It is one of my favorite things.
Elie Saab and Dries Van Noten are two of my favorite designers. I have been lucky enough to be able to borrow some of their beautiful clothes. A lesser known designer but one of my absolute favorites is Luisa Beccaria. She is Italian and based out of Milan, but she comes to New York once or twice a year for trunk shows, and I can’t help but invest in her pieces. She creates these chiffon-y kind of ethereal but beautifully tailored dresses that are just stunning.
