Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Wide Receiver, Stabbed In Leg

03/24/2014

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams was stabbed in the thigh on Sunday at his home in Tampa, Fla.

Mike Williams Stabbed

Eric Baylor, Williams’ brother, is believed to have carried out the stabbing, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Cristal Bermudez Nunez. Police have issued a warrant for Baylor’s arrest. The 23-year-old is wanted for aggravated battery/ domestic violence, reported the Tampa Bay Times.

Following the stabbing, Williams was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and was treated for a minor laceration. He was released shortly thereafter.

"Obviously, our primary focus is making sure that he's OK," said Buccaneer’s general manager Jason Licht. "I know he's been treated and released. I just want to make sure that he's OK, and that's our main concern.

"We've reached out to Mike. We've yet to hear from him,” Licht added. “From what I understand, he's been treated and released, so that's a good start. We're trying to gather all the facts we can."

Williams' Off-Field Troubles

Off-the-field troubles have long followed Williams, who completed his fourth season at Tampa Bay last fall. He’s currently facing misdemeanor criminal mischief and trespassing charges. He’s also been forced to pay $43,000 in damages for hosting rowdy house parties.

Williams, who signed a six-year, $40.25 million contract with the Buccaneers last July, only played 6 games with the team last year. In his abbreviated season, he caught 22 passes for 216 yards and scored two touchdowns.
