Caitlyn Jenner, as part of her transition, was tasked with choosing a new name, which she admits was not an easy process.

Caitlyn Jenner Picks Her Name

“It’s one of the hardest things in life—choosing your own name,” Jenner told Vanity Fair, explaining that the process began about two years ago.

While watching the Miss America pageant, Jenner paid attention to the names of the women gracing the stage, hoping to hear one that she’d like to assume as her own. After considering going by Heather or Cathy, it was Caitlyn that seemed to be the best fit. When Jenner’s assistant Ronda Kamihira said, “I love that name, too!” it all but sealed the deal that she would be a Caitlyn.

After landing on the name arose the difficult decision of how to spell it. Should Jenner go with a “K” like her ex-wife Kris Jenner, step-daughters Kourtney, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and daughters Kendall and Kylie? In the end, Jenner decided to carve out her own identity with a “C.”

On Wednesday morning, just two days after making her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, Jenner appeared in a trailer for her new E! docu-series, I Am Cait.

“So many people go through life and they never deal with their own issues — no matter what the issues are — ours happen to be gender identity,” Jenner says in the clip. “But, how many people go through life and just waste an entire life cause they’d never deal with themselves to be who they are.”

“Put it this way,” she says later in the teaser. “I’m the new normal.”
