Blood (2022) is a horror thriller that follows the story of newly divorced Jess (Michelle Monaghan) who takes her two children to her childhood farmhouse. The family’s dog gets spooked and runs off, only to return feral and bite Jess’s son, causing a mysterious infection. Skeet Ulrich plays Patrick, Jess’s ex and father to her children.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Ulrich discussed what it was like working with Monaghan.

“We had a chance when I got to Winnipeg to chat quite a bit with Brad [Anderson] and get sort of the idea of things and I had a notion about the character and how that would help the tone of the film and everybody just seemed on the same page the whole way,” he began. “She [Monaghan] was so raw and real and available and emotional and present, I mean everything would just you know kind of be like living in those scenes with her and yeah she’s an extraordinary performer and heaps of talent and it makes it a lot easier when somebody’s bringing truth to respond truthfully. So hats off to her and you know Brad sets a stage that is just, I don’t know, it just all seemed to work. Then we’re just down the story, you know, like is this the story we’re wanting to tell?”

Ulrich also revealed his favorite scene from the movie.

“I loved the logger scene just because it’s a fun scene to vent in and I think we had a blast doing that,” he said. “The idea for this was for the audience to believe, like Patrick, that she was falling into drug use again, you have to set that stage and that’s part of what that scene does. It’s sort of the back story for her, you know, always being drugged out or passed out and we went further back and sort of building all that. You know, this must have been a guy that probably did drugs with her in high school or known each other that long, he wouldn’t have been from the exact opposite of her so we tried to pitch them in the same tone so that she wasn’t set up as an almost villainous figure.”

Blood is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
