In singer Madilyn Bailey’s exclusive new uInterview, she spoke about her new album Hollywood Dead and how it relates to the lies Hollywood tells celebrities about aging.

Bailey responded to many questions from fans asked by uInterview founder Erik Meers.

One of her admirers wanted to know if the singer was planning to go on tour again. Bailey explained that she hopes to tour after she has had her baby stating, “I definitely have the ambition to tour eventually but you know I just entered into my third trimester, so I’m gonna have a baby first and then become a new mom and then once I have the mom thing down, then we’ll look into touring.” She even hinted that she may “bring baby on tour with me.”

Bailey spent time carefully deciding the order of the songs on her album, as she wanted them to represent her “journey of coming to L.A. to pursue my dreams and what goes into that. I think it aligns with really anybody’s journey when you’re starting something brand new whether it’s like you’re going to college, you’re falling in love, you’re starting your dream job.”

She intentionally starts Hollywood Dead with “energetic pop songs” which represent the “excitement period” people experience when starting something new. It continues to “chaos and confusion” with “’Hollywood Dead’ right in the middle.” “Hollywood Dead” is meant to represent “the moment where you like have this realization, maybe there’s been disillusionment and you’re like, whatever I thought I needed to be, might not be who I actually am.”

The album continues to reflect how with this realization comes “anger and frustration and darkness” which is seen in how “the latter half of the album has more edge to it and more like emotion.” She ends with a feeling of “acceptance and hope and healing so the last few songs in the album are a little softer and a little more emotional to reflect that.”

Bailey shared that the most memorable moment in making the album for her was “the photoshoot that we did for the cover art and then we made all the visualizers that came out, with me in the red outfit.” Throughout all the sessions Bailey has been pregnant, which made it a “special” experience for her that she can look back on one day.

She additionally revealed that creating this album has been a “dream come true” for her as she “always wanted to make a pop album and put it out.”

She ended the interview by sharing how she created the album and the thought process behind it. The name Hollywood Dead originated from a joke she made about her birthday. “I was like, ‘Oh I’m turning 30 this year so it basically means I’m Hollywood dead,’” she explained. This led to her team “having like a deeper discussion on aging in the industry.”

They specifically spoke about how “especially as a female and how there’s this added pressure that feels like if you haven’t made it by a certain age, 23, 26, 30 or whatever it is, like that you’re somehow gonna age out of the industry. And this is just one of the many lies that Hollywood tries to tell you.”

When Bailey’s birthday passed, she believed this was going to happen to her, but she was proven wrong. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I crossed over the line and nothing happened and I’m still me and I’m still here and I still want to make the songs I want to make.” She is continuing to inspire women to continue their work and explained, “That’s one of those Hollywood myths I’m trying to disprove right now.”
