Ryan Sill of Team Gwen was awarded the first Voice Save of the season, surprising coaches Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine during Tuesday night’s live results show of The Voice.

After the Top 12 performed live on Monday night, competing for America’s votes, Carson Daly announced the three artists with the least votes. But first, Team Gwen was joined by their coach to sing the classic “The Tide Is High.”

Later in the show, Team Blake took the stage, performing “Sad Songs.”

Ryan Sill, Sugar Joans, Jessie Pitts Compete For #VoiceSave

Every single member of Team Adam – Chris Jamison, Matt McAndrew and Damien – escaped landing in the bottom three, much to Adam’s delight. None of the other coaches were so lucky, with one member each from Team Gwen, Team Pharrell and Team Blake in the bottom three and up for elimination. After an excruciatingly long results announcement, Carson revealed that Ryan Sill of Team Gwen, Sugar Joans of Team Pharrell and Jessie Pitts of Team Blake were in the bottom three.

As explained by Carson, the #VoiceSave allows viewers at home to save one artist of the bottom three. All three up for elimination perform for the viewers, who are then given a few minutes to tweet and retweet the name of the artist they want to save, using the hashtag ‘#VoiceSave[artist].’ The artist with the most tweets and retweets will move on to the next round, and the remaining two will go home.

Jessie Pitts was the first to sing for her life, performing “Gravity.” Following her performance, Blake begged viewers to vote for Jessie, saying, “She occupies a space that nobody else on this show occupies…I just think it’s important to keep her on this show, and she deserves to be on this show.”

Sugar Joans was up next, singing “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Both Pharrell and Gwen gave Sugar a standing ovation. “Sugar, that was amazing…I just think that America should save you because, there’s just so much texture to your voice,” Pharrell said, promising to change the world with her voice in the studio.

Finally Ryan Sill took the stage with “More Than Words,” working the cute boy factor to the max. “I adore you. I’m so happy I got to get to know you. You deserve to be here! You keep getting better in front of everybody’s eyes…You guys have to save him, please,” Gwen said.

Audience Saves Ryan Sill

Carson opened up the Voice Save window, instructing viewers to tweet only using the hashtags ‘#VoiceSaveJessie’, ‘#VoiceSaveSugar’ and ‘#VoiceSaveRyan.’ Viewers had five minutes to tweet their votes.
