Lee Daniels claims that both Oprah Winfrey and Common will make appearances during Empire‘s second season.
Empire‘s first season finale aired during a special screening in Los Angeles Thursday night, where Daniels suggested that Winfrey and Common would appear in the show down the line. The co-creator, when asked about the media mogul’s rumored guest spot, said, “Yes. Yeah, she’s gonna be on it.” Daniel’s also said he’d written Common into the season, though revealing that the actor and rapper hadn’t been informed yet. “Common, you heard that first,” Daniels said.
During the Q&A, Daniels was asked further questions about Winfrey’s role on Empire. Joking with Empire star Taraji P. Henson, he said that Winfrey’s character will have a “wig-pulling brawl” with Henson’s matriarchal character Cookie. Incidentally, Oprah has already made a cameo appearance in a scene with Terrence Howard.
Winfrey previously worked with Daniels in The Butler opposite Forest Whitaker. She also appeared alongside Common in Ava DuVernay‘s Selma. Common and John Legend won an Oscar for writing the song “Glory” for the film.
