NFL Confirms Maroon 5, Travis Scott & Big Boi As Their Super Bowl LIII Halftime Performers

The 2019 Super Bowl halftime show lineup is officially here!

On Sunday, NFL officially announced that Maroon 5 will be joined by Travis Scott and Big Boi at the upcoming championship game, after a number of popular artists including Rihanna, Adele, Jay-Z, Pink and Cardi B turned down this year’s halftime slot in solidarity with former NFL San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who faced controversy after starting the #TakeAKnee movement to promote racial equality in 2016.

Now after being rumored as the headliners for months, the Grammy-winning rock band is now officially confirmed as the headliners by the NFL.

It’s official: @maroon5 will take center stage at @SuperBowl LIII! They will be joined by @trvisXX and @BigBoi. #SBLIII,” NFL wrote on its verified Twitter account.

A 59-second video of the band was also posted on Maroon 5’s Twitter account with the caption “#SBLII.”

Maroon 5 is most known for their hits from “She Will Be Loved” and “Payphone” to “Animals” and “Moves Like Jagger.”

As for Scott, who initially faced criticism for his involvement, he recently revealed that he required the NFL to pay a joint donation of $500,000 to the non-profit Dream Corps in order for him to participate in the halftime show event. As announced on Friday, this donation comes as part of NFL’s new “Inspire Change” program.

“I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in,” Scott said in a press release. “I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”

Pepsi Super Bowl LIII is set to take place on February 3 at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

#SBLIII ATL let’s get it !” Big Boi wrote on Twitter in excitement over the news.

Previous music icons who have performed in past Super Bowls include, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Missy Elliott, Lenny Kravitz, and Bruno Mars, among many others.
