Martin Luther King Jr.’s Family Visits Grave In Remembrance

Martin Luther King Jr.’s family visited his gravesite in Atlanta on Monday to pay their respects on the national observation day of the legendary Civil Rights leader’s life. Dr. King’s sister, Christine King Farris, son, Isaac Newton Ferris Jr. and daughter, Bernice King, were all in attendance to lay a wreath upon the grave that he shares with his wife, Coretta Scott King.

The family gathered at the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia for the annual observational service that honors King’s life. The holiday is celebrated after King’s January 15 birthday.

After a year of civil unrest due to racial tensions in the country, many took special note of yesterday’s national holiday. While the annual Community Commemorative Service was held yesterday at the King Center, the MLK Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C. was shut down due to security concerns as a result of the attacks on the US Capitol on January 6.
