Elton John
Elton John‘s mother, Sheila Farebrother, has died just months after reconciling with her son after years of estrangement. She was 92.
Farebrother passed away on Monday morning, the singer announced in a Twitter post. “So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning. I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock,” legendary singer wrote. “Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton”
Farebrother’s cause of death is not immediately known. John, 70, shared with his fans on Mother’s Day that he and his mom had finally settled their feud after he contracted a deadly bacterial infection while touring in South America. They had spent nine years apart. Farebrother told the Telegraph in 2015 that she blamed her son-in-law David Furnish for the lapse in communication with her son.
After a series of angry public fights, the two seemed to have parted ways for good. “I don’t miss her. When she says things in the press, like, ‘I haven’t spoken to Elton since he married that f–king a–hole David Furnish.’ That was pretty hard to take,” he said. “I don’t hate my mother. I look after her but I don’t want her in my life.”
This past May, he posted a throwback photo of the pair with the caption, “So happy we are back in touch. Love, Elton.”
John has 12 scheduled concerts in December, including one in Hamburg on Tuesday night, followed by Monaco, Dubai, and Lebanon later in the week. None of these dates have yet been canceled.
