Garth Brooks Earns No. 1 Spot On Country Charts, Power Goes Out During N.J. Concert

The Prudential Center in New Jersey lost power during a Garth Brooks concert, leaving fans in the dark.

POWER OUTAGE DURING GARTH BROOKS CONCERT

The lights went down just before Brooks’ began his final performance after three nights in Newark. The warm-up act was still on stage when the power went out, and fans began singing Brooks’ song “Friends in Low Places” while they waited for the lights to come back on.

The Prudential Center’s social media team got to work reporting the incident. “At approximately 7:50 p.m. tonight, Prudential Center experienced a brief power outage. Power was quickly restored and tonight’s performance is proceeding as scheduled,” the team wrote. “Prudential Center has been in close communication with its partner, PSEG, regarding tonight’s brief outage.”

Brooks also just earned his 19th No. 1 song on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart for the first time in a decade with “Ask Me How I Know.” Prior to that, he had a No. 1 in 2007 with “More Than a Memory.” His current album, The Anthology: Part 1, The First Five Years, is also his 17th to be No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart.

“I’m so proud of the Pearl Records team for working so hard for this No. 1,” Brooks says. “Congrats to [writer] Mitch Rossell on his first cut – so happy for you, pal! And, to country radio: four decades later, thanks for still believing. I’m humbled and very grateful.”
