Dolly Parton Receives CMT Lifetime Achievement Award
Dolly Parton received a glowing tribute at last night’s 50th Annual CMA Awards in Nashville.
The 70-year-old star was honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award before being serenaded in a special tribute of her own songs, sung by the best in the industry. The acts involved in the medley were the Pentatonix and Jennifer Nettles singing an a capella version of “Jolene,” Reba McEntire version of “9 to 5,” Kacey Musgraves singing “Here You Come Again,” and Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood joining the others on stage for “I Will Always Love You.”
Parton’s response was perfectly candid. “This was so touching,” said the country legend. “I would have cried, but I didn’t want to mess up my eyelashes.”
Parton’s speech was the last of the night. “I mean, for Willie to have a high achievement award, I mean, how appropriate is that? Because he’s had some highs that border on historic, I can tell you that.” Parton was rushed to give her speech, as the show had already gone over its allotted time, but she pressed on. “I really am very proud to receive this,” Parton said. “Of course, they asked me to hurry it up. They say they’re behind, but you’re talking about a lifetime here, right? …I just wanna thank all my fans and everybody for allowing me to see my little girl dreams come true.”
