ERIN MORIARTY BIOGRAPHY: CAREER

Moriarty has appeared in numerous independent films, such as The Kings of Summer and Captain Fantastic, to name a couple. She has also held notable roles in Netflix’s Jessica Jones, HBO’s True Detective, Law & Order, ABC’s Red Widow and more.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Moriarty revealed the first experience she had that made her decide she wanted to become an actress.

“Wow, that’s so funny,” Moriarty laughed. “It’s just so different from what I’m doing now, but it was [acting as] Annie in Annie in New York City and I was really obsessed with musical theater, and that’s what originally got me interested in acting because I just thought it was so fun. I couldn’t imagine anything better. The dancing and the singing and the acting. It just was so fun, and it’s funny because, you know, relative to back, then these characters that I’m playing [now] are so dark, but back then I just remember it was like the pure joy of having so much fun doing something that you could also make your career. [It] was so cool to me and (something) that I didn’t see many people around me doing. It felt like they went to business or medical school because that’s what you did, and at nighttime, they would play music or something like that. My dad, for example, he would have been a musician if he could have done that all the time, and so I think he really encouraged me to just go for it. So that was just an amazing feeling that I could even do that.”

Moriarty also spoke about filming some of the heavy scenes in the new hit film Catching Dust with Jai Courtney.

“First and foremost, I think one of the really pertinent components for Jai [Courtney] and I was that, you know, we arrived on this little island in Spain early. We met in Los Angeles before going off to do the film and I think it was important to meet each other and understand that we were going to be able to rely on each other as a scene partner and be each other’s safe zone. He knew that he could try anything and vice versa and that we were going to encourage each other and that we were both just going to have fun, but also really dig in, but also ultimately really be there for each other. So, we had a really great friendship off-screen, which really helped us go there on screen.”

When asked if there was any question she’d ask her character if she was a real person, this is what Moriarty had to say:

“Wow,” Moriarty paused. “Yeah, wow. Oh my gosh. I think that it would be, do you really think, and I’m not phrasing this in a way where I actually know the answer. I’m genuinely curious because she’s young when we meet her but she’s old enough that she’d lived in that world for so long. My question would be: Do you think you can really transcend your upbringing and past enough to remove all of the emotional blocks that your childhood and your previous relationships have catalyzed? That would be the honest question, just because I feel like behavioral patterns that stem from our upbringings are so difficult to transcend, but I also think that she would be the type of anomaly that could. I would be curious to know because that would require a strength that I think she possesses that I’ve never had to summon because I was lucky enough to be raised in New York and raised in different circumstances.”
