Alex Horne is a British comedian. He is known for being the creator of the award-winning television series Taskmaster. He is also the host of the comedic band The Horne Section.
Alex Horne was born on September 10, 1978 (Alex Horne: age 44) in Chichester, West Sussex, England.
Horne went to school at Lancing College in West Sussex during his teen years. He went on to pursue his education in classics at Sidney Sussex College, which is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. While studying at Cambridge, Horne joined the Footlights, Cambridge’s theatre club.
When asked by uInterview founder Erik Meers if he had always been interested in comedy, Horne divulged, “I was quite shy, but I do remember I could make my family laugh, like at Christmas dinner when I was about twelve I remember making them laugh and enjoying that sensation. But I wasn’t the classroom joker at all.”
Despite this initial shyness, the comedian continued, “I did an open spot while I was at university, and it happened to go well, and I was hooked – that was it. You have to pursue that.”
Horne performed his show “How to Avoid Huge Ships” at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2000. His next show “Making Fish Laugh,” which was nominated for a Perrier Newcomer Award, also appeared at Edinburgh. He also performed his 2007 and 2008 shows “Birdwatching” and “Worldwatching” at Edinburgh, then went on to publish both shows as books.
Horne collaborated with fellow comedian Tim Key to create the shows “Every Body Talks” and “When in Rome”, the latter of which he took on tour in the United Kingdom.
Horne appeared as a contestant on the game show Countdown in 2008, where he won three matches.
Starting in 2010, Horne has led his band The Horne Section, a comedic, musical variety show. Channel 4 is set to produce The Horne Section TV Show, which will include an element of music, comedy and sitcom.
Horne created the award-winning television series Taskmaster, which he began developing in 2009. The show premiered in 2015, with fellow comedian Greg Davies serving as the Taskmaster and presenting the show alongside Horne.
The series follows a group of celebrities that are given a series of challenges to complete with absolutely no preparation. When asked by uInterview why viewers find the show so funny, Horne replied, “I think the audience finds the people who perform the worst to be the funniest. The question we get asked the most when we do losers of losers edition is, people love the failures.”
The popular show has inspired spin-offs in twelve additional countries, including the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany and Sweden.
