Last week, 25-year-old Riverdale actress Camila Mendes took a trip to Brazil with friends to embrace her roots. Mendes was born in 1994 in Charlottesville, Virginia, but both her parents come from regions in Brazil. Her mother from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sol, and her father from the capital of Brazil, Brasilia.

Mendes is no stranger to adventure, as a child her along with her sister, Kiara, she moved with their parents a total of 16 times.

In recent months, Mendes has opened up in an interview with Shape magazine about her fittings for Riverdale and how it affected her health, causing her to develop an eating disorder. “I’ve struggled with bulimia. It happened a little bit in high school and again when I was in college. Then it came back when I started working in this industry with fittings all the time and watching myself on camera,” she said.
