Country star Tim McGraw will perform Glen Campbell’s “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” at the 87th Academy Awards.

Campbell, a legendary country music artist who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, starred in the documentary Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me, about his disease and his final goodbye tour. Also documented in the film is Campbell’s final recording session for his last original song, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” which is now nominated for Best Original Song.

McGraw, a self-proclaimed Campbell fan, will perform the song in Campbell’s stead – Campbell is currently living in a residential, full-time care facility.

The Campbell family has issued a statement supporting the decision to have McGraw perform the song, saying, “We are thrilled that Tim McGraw will be singing ‘I’m Not Gonna Miss You’ on Glen’s behalf at the Academy Awards. Glen was always a fan of his music and Tim is sure to bring great emotional depth to the performance. We can’t wait to hear it live!

“I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” written by Campbell and Julian Raymond, will compete for the Oscar for Best Original Song with “Everything Is Awesome” (The Lego Movie), “Glory” (Selma), “Grateful” (Beyond the Lights) and “Lost Stars” (Begin Again).

The Oscars hosted by Neil Patrick Harris will take place Sunday, Feb. 22, and broadcast live at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT on ABC.
