Hugh Jackman made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con’s X-Men: Apocalypse panel, where the first footage of the film premiered.

Hugh Jackman Surprises At X-Men: Apocalypse Panel

The cast of X-Men, including Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence, were all in attendance at the 20th Century Fox presentation in Comic-Con’s famed Hall H over the weekend.

The X-Men portion of the Fox panel opened with Jackman’s audition tape, and served as a sort of love letter to the actor who is largely credited with the success of the franchise. Jackman then surprised fans by stepping out onto the stage, despite not being confirmed to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse. “Playing the legend that is Wolverine is the greatest part I’ve had in my life,” Jackman told the audience before welcoming his co-stars on stage.

Fassbender, McAvoy, Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Olivia Munn, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Shophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Hardy, Lucas Till and Lana Condor joined Jackman, along with director Bryan Singer.

X-Men: Apocalypse Comic-Con Trailer Leaks

Singer introduced the first Apocalypse trailer, revealing that the film will take place in 1983, after the events of Days of Future Past. Though the film begins with society having largely accepted mutants, based on the trailer, a peaceful co-existence of humans and mutants won’t last long. Turner’s young Jean Grey and Isaac’s villainous Apocalypse are both heavily featured in the trailer, which also gives fans a first look at Smit-McPhee’s Nightcrawler and Munn’s Psylocke. The trailer has not officially been released, but the Comic-Con footage has leaked online.

Fans waiting for the official footage release can focus on the newly released concept art for the film, including this new poster which gives fans a first look at Apocalypse.

X-Men Cast Takes Super Selfie With Ryan Reynolds And Channing Tatum

The X-Men: Apocalypse footage came after a short Deadpool panel. Deadpool, of course, is the highly anticipated X-Men spinoff movie starring Ryan Reynolds. Another new X-Men hero, Channing Tatum, appeared at the very end of the panel. Tatum is set to play Gambit in an upcoming film, and he joined the others on stage with Marvel’s Stan Lee to wave hello and take a massive selfie with the cast of Apocalypse and Reynolds. (Note: as for the Deadpool footage shown at Comic-Con, Reynolds himself has promised fans that official footage will be released in three weeks.)

X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters May 27, 2016.
