No. 9: James Patterson ($87 million)
America’s richest novelist sold 9.5 million domestic copies in the last year and several of his works are being adapted for television.
The 70-year-old author of the Alex Cross and Private series also signed an estimated seven-figure deal to co-write an upcoming thriller novel with former President Bill Clinton.
Patterson, who also writes non-fiction and romance novels, is married and has one son.
