No. 5: Cristiano Ronaldo ($93 million)
Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or for the fourth time this year after being voted FIFA’s best player, and earned a contract extension with Real Madrid that will pay him more than $50 million for each of the next four years.
The 32-year-old Portuguese forward was caught in a tax fraud scandal this year, and also signed a lifetime deal with Nike worth more than $1 billion.
Ronaldo also helped Real Madrid win the Spanish league title this year (in addition to back-to-back Champions League trophies) and led Portugal to win the UEFA Euro summer 2016 tournament. His home country even renamed an international airport to honor him.
His growing line of CR7 branded products now include shoes, underwear, fragrance, jeans and a line of hotels. ($35 million in earnings from endorsements) Ronaldo remains the most popular athlete in the world with 275 million social media followers.
Ronaldo has one son, Cristiano Jr, and recently had twins, a boy and a girl. He is reportedly expecting another child with girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.
