The Best Original Song Oscar category is attracting it’s fair share of drama as an unnamed snubbed film is contesting the eligibility of nominee "Alone Yet Not Alone."

'Alone Yet Not Alone' Surprising Nomination

"Alone Yet Not Alone," from the film of the same name, shocked many when it was announced as a nominee, and it seems a film whose original song was not nominated took offense that Alone Yet Not Alone was nominated.

One point of contention is that the song’s music is written by Bruce Broughton, who was a member of the Academy and represented the music branch for 9 years, from 2003-2012, on the Academy board of governors. The spiritual, Christian-themed film, also had an incredibly small release, sparking rumors that the only reason the song was nominated was because of Broughton's involvement.

“Alone Yet Not Alone” is performed by Evangelical minister, Joni Eareckson Tada.

Snubbed Film Hired Private Investigator

The snubbed film’s public relations firm hired a private investigator to look into the eligibility of “Alone Yet Not Alone,” and reportedly found that the film did not comply with Academy rules in advertising.

To be considered for an Academy Award, a movie has to be “advertised and exploited during its Los Angeles County qualifying run in print media." Alone Yet Not Alone had not been advertised in print during it’s L.A. release, and the issue was reported to the Academy.

The Academy released a statement declaring that the film and the song will remain on the Oscar ballot as Alone Yet Not Alone was included in a theater’s showtime listings in print.

Put simply, the Academy spokesperson said, “A showtime listing meets our eligibility requirements.”

“Alone Yet Not Alone” could take home Oscar gold over fellow nominees, “Happy” (Despicable Me 2), “Let It Go” (Frozen), “The Moon Song” (Her) and “Ordinary Love” (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), on March 2. It has not yet been announced whether the nominees will be invited to perform their songs during the broadcast.

Wow… they hired a private investigator? Talk about sour grapes! Pathetic. Wish they gave the name of the movie/song that felt snubbed. This was a beautiful song.
