Zayne Malik Tweets 'FreePalestine'
Since posting the tweet Sunday, Malik has received more than 150,000 retweets and favorites. He’s also received a number of hateful messages and death threats from fans from Israel. Posters told the pop singer, “Let me kill you,” and others suggested he “kill himself.”
Despite the onslaught of threats, Malik, who was raised in the Muslim faith, has not removed his tweet.
Rihanna, Dwight Howard's 'Free Palestine' Tweets
Rihanna stirred controversy earlier this month when she tweeted the same “FreePalestine” message as Malik. Not long after the tweet went up, the “Diamonds” singer deleted it from her Twitter timeline. In its place she wrote, “Let’s pray for peace and a swift end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict! Is there any hope?”
Dwight Howard, the center for the Houston Rockets, also tweeted the hashtag. Like Rihanna, he too deleted the post and subsequently issued an apology.
