It was less than a year ago that Zachary Quinto, 35, of the new, reimagined Star Trek franchise first publically identified himself as "a gay man," and now he's stepping out with boyfriend Jonathan Groff, 27, who plays Jesse St. James on the celebrated Fox program, Glee.

The two had been spotted together enough that speculation about a budding relationship was rife, and now Quinto is confirming that the two are very much involved. "I'm incredibly happy, I'm incredibly lucky," said Quinto of his new relationship, reports Out magazine.

Quinto's relationship with Groff, he says, is a departure for him. In earlier relationships, "I found myself in a pattern of being attracted to people who were somehow unavailable, and what I realized was that I was protecting myself because I equated the idea of connection and love with trauma and death," he said.

So what helped? "I had to do a lot of work on the couch to really get to a place where I was able to show up to a relationship with someone who was actually capable of being in one — and that took a lot of trial and error," said Quinto.

But one thing's for certain. "I definitely want kids," he said. "I want to share."

The next installment in the Star Trek series, Star Trek Into Darkness, also starring Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Simon Pegg, is due out in theaters on May 17, 2013. You can also catch Quinto in the new season of FX's American Horror Story with Jessica Lange, James Cromwell, Joseph Fiennes, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Adam Levine and Chloe Sevigny.

Glee returns to Fox for its fourth season on its new night, Thursday, September 13 at 9 p.m. EST.
