Zach Galifianakis is in final negotiations to voice the Joker in Warner Bros.’ The Lego Batman Movie — the news broke on Thursday.

Zach Galifianakis Cast As Joker In ‘Lego Batman’ Film

Galifianakis will reportedly voice Batman’s epic nemesis, the Joker. The actor will join Will Arnett, who is reprising the role of the Dark Hero he originated in Lego Movie, and Michael Cera, who was recently cast to voice the hero’s sidekick, Robin.

Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the directors of the original Lego film, are coming back as producers.

Lord spoke a bit about what the Lego Batman film will focus on earlier this year. “No spoilers. But I will say I think the movie is really exciting because it’s about ‘Can Batman be happy?,’” the director told MTV News.

Miller even decided to reassure fans that all of Batman’s film history will be accounted for in Lego Batman. “Rest assured that every era of Batman film making will be acknowledged,” Miller told Empire last year.

“There have been so many interpretations of Batman and there is so much to play with there,” Miller added.

Chris McKay, the animation supervisor on Lego Movie, is directing the Lego sequel, which has a script written by author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith.

Galifianakis just finished shooting Fox 2000’s comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses with Gal Gadot and Jon Hamm, and will be appearing in new FX show Baskets in 2016.

Lego Batman is set to hit theaters in 2017.
