Kevin Costner, best known currently as the lead of the hit western drama Yellowstone, spoke frankly about politics in a new interview. The actor was unapologetic of his previous support of politicians on both sides of the aisle, and said he feels “disappointed” by the visions of most elected officials these days.
Luckily though, we don’t have another celebrity Presidential candidate on our hands, as Costner was clear he would never share the political ambitions his Yellowstone character John Dutton has. “I don’t think there is any reason for me to run, though I wish the people that did run had a bigger vision and more morality about how they see the country evolving,” he told USA Today.

Costner was a Republican early in his life, even being close friends with former President Ronald Reagan. Now his political affiliations are more mercurial, with him donating to Democratic politicians like Al Gore and more recently Barack Obama, while still supporting Republicans occasionally, including Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) in the recent midterms.
Cheney, who has been acting as the Vice Chair of the House January 6th Committee, lost her reelection bid to Harriet Hageman, a Donald Trump-endorsed candidate. Cheney’s criticism of Trump and other Republicans that often fall in line with him caused her to become more radioactive to her colleagues and eventually removed as Chair of the House Republican Committee.
Costner also supported Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg in the 2020 Presidential election, later endorsing Biden when Buttigieg dropped.
On the potential fallout from backing certain candidates, Costner simply said, “I didn’t really care how the cookie crumbles, that people that liked me now don’t like me. That’s ok.”
