From cheating scandals with porn stars to being too busy to buy her a birthday gift, the reasons are endless as to why First Lady Melania Trump avoids shows of public affection with President Donald Trump.

Ever since Trump has taken office, Melania has rarely ever seen holding hands with her husband. She is often seen looking coldly off to the side. Their public body language shows hints of a strained relationship between the two. According to the tell-all book Fire and Fury by Michael Wolff, the couple sleep in separate bedrooms in the White House.

During the President’s inauguration, Trump turned around and looked at his wife. She then smiled but it immediately turned back into a frown when he turned his back towards her again.

In another instance, the couple were at an airport in Israel when Trump tried to hold her hand, which caused her to promptly swat his hand away from hers.

Melania refused his hand once more when they were leaving the Air Force One — he tried to hold her hand while they walked down the stairs. However, she ignored him and began to walk down herself.

The most recent instance was earlier this week when the couple met with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron to discuss foreign policy. When the two couples were posing for photos, Trump tried to grab his wife’s hand, but she resisted firmly throughout the photos.

Despite her coldness towards her husband, Melania is actually good company, according to Bridgette. She said the First Lady was “actually really fun. We have the same sense of humor. We laugh a lot together.”

However, she revealed that Melania “cannot do anything” in the White House. The French first lady told Le Monde. “She can’t even open a window at the White House. She can’t go outside. She’s much more constrained than I am. I go out every day in Paris.”

Melania was recently smiling with former president Barack Obama while they both attended the funeral of Barbara Bush.
