Though both former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama were accommodated at the Buckingham Palace during their visits to the U.K., President Donald Trump will not be following the tradition. Due to a massive renovation currently underway at the palace that is projected to cost around $465 million, the palace is set to go under renovations that could last up to 10 years.
Buckingham Palace was constructed in the early 1700s as a house for the Duke of Buckingham, and was purchased by King George III in 1792 as a private home for his wife and children. The home continued to be renovated and added on, ultimately becoming the official royal residence and headquarters for the British monarchy beginning with Queen Victoria.

Queen Elizabeth and her family have called the palace home ever since she inherited the throne in 1952. She even gave birth to three of her four children at Buckingham.
Today, the palace has 775 rooms, including 19 state rooms, 52 bedrooms for the royal family and their guests, as well as 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms.
Trump’s first official state visit to the U.K was an eventful one, including tea with Prince Charles at Clarence House and a banquet held by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Some see the hand of Prince Harry in Trump’s non-invitation to the palace, due to his comments about his wife, Meghan Markle, and mother, Princess Diana.
