‘The Walking Dead’ Recap: Daryl & Aaron Make A Shocking Discovery, Rick Finally Fights Pete
The Walking Dead “Try” opened with Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh) playing Aiden’s head-banging CD for Spencer and Rich after learning that he died on the last foraging mission.
The Walking Dead Recap
After Deanna turns the music off, Rich crying, she goes outside to find a casserole from Carol (Melissa McBride) with a note reading, “We’re truly sorry for your loss,” attached to it. Deanna leaves the casserole outside, and burns up the note. In the watch tower, Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) has her gun out, and spots a walker clambering toward the walls. She shoots it and then another.
It’s soon revealed that Deanna has heard Nicholas’s (Michael Traynor) side of the story for the incident that left her son dead. “Aiden was trying to save us,” he tells Deanna, adding that Glenn (Stephen Yeun) distracted Aiden. Glenn tells his version, the truth, to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) – that he tried to keep Aiden from shooting at the grenades. Glenn also recounts how he saw Noah (Tyler James Williams) die. Rick, still divisive-minded, highlights the difference between the people of Alexandria and them, while Glenn urges for unity – how they’re all in this together.
Carol later talks to Rick about what Sam (Major Dodson) told her about how his dad, Pete (Corey Brill), beats up his mother, Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge). Carol reminds Rick that she too was a victim of ongoing domestic abuse. Not long after, Pete approaches Rick outside. Rick tells him to keep walking, his pistol drawn and resting at his side. The following day, Rick goes to see Deanna at the gravesite. He tells her there’s a problem with Pete and she reveals that she knows – but that because he’s a surgeon, she’s kept him there. When Rick proposes killing Pete, Deanna dismisses the idea.
Michonne (Danai Gurira) wakes up and heads out to look for Sasha after Rosita (Christian Serratos) gives her an update on Tara (Alanna Masterson). Outside the walls, they find the walkers that Sasha has been hunting shot in the back of the head. When they catch up to Sasha, they help her slaughter dozens of walkers. Afterwards, she tells them that she just needs to be left alone, suffering from the loss of Tyreese as well as her bad last conversation with Noah.
Also out in the woods, Carl is following Enid when they encounter a walker. Invigorated, the two run away and talk about how they miss being out in the wild with the walkers all the time. “It’s their world, we’re just living in it,” Enid tells Carl as they hide out in a tree and almost kiss.
Back inside the walls, Glenn gets into Nicholas’s face, telling him that the deaths of all of the people who’ve died out scavenging are on his hands. If the walls hadn’t gone up, Nicholas never would have survived, according to Glenn, who warns him to never go back out there. Nicholas, doing the opposite of heading Glenn’s advice, goes outside the walls and picks up a gun.
Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Aaron (Ross Marquand), outside the walls, had seen a light off in the distance. In the daytime, they head in the direction of the light, coming across a disemboweled woman tied to a tree with a W carved onto her forehead. There are also zombie parts all over the ground, but with heads and torsos missing. “Whoever did this took what was left with him,” Daryl says, while Sasha, back in her watch tower, picks off walkers with W’s on their foreheads scratching at the walls.
Rick, unable to stop himself, eventually goes over to Jessie’s and tells her that Pete has to stop hurting her and insists on helping her take care of the situation. She insists that she can fix it, that she doesn’t need his help. He leaves but then immediately returns to beg her to let him help her. Jessie, understanding the real reason why Rick’s so passionate about this, asks him if he’d do any of this for anyone else. And he admits he wouldn’t. When Pete gets home drunk, Jessie asks him to leave. Instead, he lunges at Rick and they get into a fist fight that carries out onto the street. With everyone watching, Rick pulls out his gun and starts ranting about how things should be run, leading Michonne to knock him out with a punch.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC at 9/8c.
