The Voice returned Tuesday night with the results from Monday evening’s show that eliminated one more singer from the competition.
The Voice Recap: Paxton Ingram Beats Nick Hagelin
Automatically through to the semifinals were Team Pharrell’s Hannah Huston, Team Christina’s Bryan Bautista and Alisan Porter, Team Blake’s Adam Wakefield and Maray Sarah and Team Adam’s Laith Al-Saadi and Shalyah Fearing. Having to duke it out for that last spot in the semifinals were Team Blake’s Paxton Ingram and Team Christina’s Nick Hagelin.
Fighting for that final slot, Ingram sang Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know,” while Hagelin went with Eric Clapton’s “Change the World.”
Praising his protege’s performance Tuesday night in addition to the long list of his performances on The Voice, Blake Shelton said that he hoped voters realized the strength of his musicality. “If they think about your presence on this show is these songs you cover, every single time you do it, you take a song and you honor the original artists, but you make it your own,” Blake says to Ingram. “That is the mark of an artist who has a vision, and that’s why you belong to be here next week. That’s why you belong on this show.”
Hagelin underwhelmed with his “Change the World” rendition, which paled in comparison to Ingram’s performance. The judges were short on praise for his singing, but did give him points for personality.
In the end, it was a close battle between Ingram and Hagelin, with Ingram beating out Hagelin by only 100 Twitter votes.
