Ozzie Guillen, manager of the Miami Marlins baseball team, was suspended for five games after he was quoted in a newspaper saying he admired Cuban President Fidel Castro. Guillen apologized Tuesday for offending the large consituency of Cuban immigrants who are among the Marlins' most ardent fans.
"I'm here on my knees to apologize," Guillen said in the Miami neighborhood known as LIttle Havana. "I'm very sorry about the problem, what happened. I will do everything in my power to make it better. … When you make a mistake like this, you can't sleep."
Guillen, who is Venezuelan, told Time that he loves and respects Castro for staying in power so long. Immediately afterward, many Miamians — including at least two Miami politicians — said Guillen should lose his job.
