VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Victory Boyd On ‘Glory Hour,’ Being Discovered By Jay-Z, Her Faith

In her new uInterivew, Victory Boyd, better known simply as Victory, shared details on her new album Glory Hour and how she was originally discovered by Jay-Z.

Victory explained to uInterview founder Erik Meers that her album is based on her deep Christian faith.

“I learned throughout my various experiences in life that there are going to be seasons of darkness, there are going to be times when we face real pain,” she stated. “But I also learned that in these moments, these moments could either break us or we could lean into faith and we can find a power that is stronger than the darkness that we’re facing.”

She continued to explain how Jesus was there for her in her time of need.

“I started to lean into my faith and Jesus and I started to try to find the glory that will help me overcome this darkness instead of allowing this darkness to break me,” she said.

While reading the Bible and scriptures, she felt inspired and found a way to overcome the hardships she was experiencing. She determined she wanted to translate this into an album so that others could have hope.

“I decided to create this album called Glory Hour as a tool to help people in seasons of darkness to wait for the appointed time when glory will devour darkness and to have this hope that you know this is not the end of the story and so this too shall pass and the glory of the sun will indeed come,” she said. 

Victory shared that her favorite song depends on how she’s feeling in the moment and what she’s experiencing at that time.

“So right now, I’m really leaning into the song I wrote, ‘I Don’t Have To Pretend.’ And sometimes we’re not aware of how much we’re pretending,” she said.  

Victory was discovered by Jay-Z after a mutual friend sent him a video of her singing in Central Park, which she used to do frequently.

She recalled how her “mind was blown” during the meeting as “this is ten years after singing almost every day in Central Park, and then we’re here at the top floor of this skyscraper in Times Square sitting with Jay-Z and sharing our life story.”

After the meeting, the rapper not only signed Victory but also her brothers and sisters to his label, Roc Nation.  

She enjoys working with Roc Nation as they allow her to explore her vision without thinking of the bottom line first.

“Jay-Z’s model is really one of artistic freedom and he’s not afraid to take chances because of his experience,” she said.

Victory shared that she hopes that fans will have hope after listening to the new album and be able to reach for their faith in times of need.

“And when you have faith enough to reach hold of that power, you know, I want my album to encourage people in faith and lead people, inspire them in having faith, you know, to grab hold of that power because there will always come a time when the circumstances in life seem to be overwhelming and seem to be stronger than you,” she said.
