Sydney’s Taronga Zoo welcomed three koala joeys as part of the zoo’s koala breeding program, footage released on Nov. 27 shows.

Footage shared by Taronga Zoo shows baby koalas, ranging from six to seven months old, munching on eucalyptus leaves and hugging their mothers, Luna, Willow and Stormi.

To celebrate the event, the zoo invited the public to help pick between three weather-themed names for Luna’s joey, in honor of their father, Thunder.

Starting on Nov. 29, guests will be able to choose between three names in an Indigenous Australian language: Wadi (meaning “branch”), Yanada (meaning “moon”) and Bana (meaning “rain”).

“These three joeys represent an important milestone for Koalas, classified as endangered in New South Wales following the devastating Black Summer bushfires of 2019–2020, which tragically claimed the lives of billions of native animals,” a zoo spokesperson told Storyful.

Australian Fauna Keeper Tyler Philpott took the opportunity to remind travelers to be mindful of wildlife as they travel up or down Australia’s East Coast during the holidays, particularly around dawn and dusk, when koalas are most active.

“Slowing down can protect the lives of our precious native wildlife,” Philpott said, according to the zoo.
