Olympic volleyball player Kim Glass suffered extreme injuries to the face after a man randomly attacked her with a metal pipe on a sidewalk in Los Angeles. She has shared graphic videos of the injuries that show she had a swollen right eye and facial lacerations.

Glass explained in an Instagram video that she had just finished lunch with a friend when she saw a man approaching her from the street in front of the restaurant. “And as I turned to go tell my friend I think something’s like wrong with him, and I think he’s going to hit your car, before I knew it, a big metal bolt, like pipe, hit me,” she said.

She added that the man had chucked the pipe at her from a good distance away. The attacker, a 50-year-old homeless man, was restrained by onlookers while police arrived and then arrested without further incident. He has since been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon.

The athlete explained that she sustained several fractures around her eye and some gashes needed stitches. Glass won her Olympic Silver medal as a member of the USA Volleyball team at the 2008 Olympics.
