Tyler Perry will pay for all of Rayshard Brooks’ funeral expenses. Brooks was shot and killed by a police officer on Friday in Atlanta. Perry has also offered to pay for Brooks’ four children’s college educations.

A source close to Perry told People that Perry “spoke to Rayshard’s family and wanted to do something to help.” The source added, “His heart goes out to the family during this tragic time.”

Brooks was shot in a Wendy’s parking lot on Friday night. Police responded to a complaint that a man, identified as Brooks, was asleep and parked in the restaurant’s drive-thru lane. Brooks resisted arrest, an officer deployed a taser, and then a struggle between Brooks and the police ensued. Brooks was then shot and later died due to his injuries after undergoing surgery.

Brooks is survived by his wife Tomika Miller and their four children: Dream, Memory, Blessing and Mekai.

After Brooks’ death, Erika Shields, the Atlanta police chief resigned and the officer that shot Brooks, Garrett Rolfe was fired.

His death came after weeks of national unrest and protests against police brutality and racial injustice which followed the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25.

In a statement, L. Christ Stewart, the attorney for Brooks’ family said, “I’ve been doing this for 15 years, I don’t know what justice is anymore. Is it getting them arrested? Is it getting somebody fired? Is it a chief stepping down? I know that this isn’t justice, what’s happening in society right now. We’re just tired. And if you don’t understand that because you may be a different color, you may be a different gender, you may not be from Georgia, then you may be the problem.”
