'True Blood' Recap: Jessica, Pam, Tara, and Willa Prepare To Meet The Sun; Sookie Decides To Accept Her Fate As A Vampire

Nicole (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) is pregnant with Sam’s child, Sookie (Anna Paquin) might just be a vampire-fairy before the season’s end and Bill’s vision of the future is starting to come to pass in True Blood’s “Dead Meat.”

Crying over his dead sister’s remains, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) was in no mood to talk when Bill (Stephen Moyer) began to pester him about their deal. Eric lashes out, and runs off after accusing Bill of being too much of a coward to go through Sookie to get Warlow (Robert Kazinsky) for Eric like he promised. Now Nora is dead, and Eric needs action.

While Eric and Bill consider their next moves, Sookie returns to the fairyland to check up on Warlow. Night is falling, so she ties him up, lets him feed from her wrist for a bit and then jumps right in – she wants a favor. Sookie asks Warlow to consider going with Bill to the vampire compound prison to save her friends. Warlow is quick to point out that it is really a favor for Bill, and that it would undoubtedly mean his inevitable death. Sookie insists that it would, in fact, be a favor to her, and that she will broker a deal with Bill. In return for her help, Bill will let Warlow live. Warlow, however, is not convinced, but he sees an opportunity to get what he wants – for Sookie to be his forever.

Sookie has to think on it, and she leaves him. When she leaves the cemetery, Eric is there, watching, and goes to the place she just appeared in and feels for an opening into the fairyland.

Meanwhile, Alcide (Joe Manganiello) is confronted by his pack after they find Nicole and her mother. Stronger, faster, wiser, Alcide beats Rikki when she challenges him, but does not kill her. Instead, he leaves pack-life behind and takes Nicole and her mother to Merlotte’s, where Sam (Sam Trammell) has returned to clean out Terry’s shelf at work.

Alcide extends an olive branch (aka Nicole and her innocent, panicking mother), and Sam reciprocates by giving him free reign to drink at the bar. Oh, and the shape-shifter bonding was not over yet – after saying goodnight to Nicole, Sam joins Alcide at the bar. They both admit to each other that they caught Sam sending off Nicole, and we later learn that that means she’s pregnant. They share a few drinks.

The next day, Sam decides to ask Nicole to stay with him. He tells her that he loves her, although something about his declaration does not feel right. Does he truly love her or is he just telling her he does because she’s pregnant (and doesn’t know it yet)?

Over at the vampire prison camp, Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) exchanged her body for relocation into gen pop, and she gets there at the same time as the Hep V laced Tru Blood. The inmates are instructed to line up, one bottle per prisoner, and Pam, Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), Tara (Rutina Wesley), and Willa (Amelia Rose Blaire) all avoid the line. Not only do they have to think about not drinking the Tru Blood, they also have to worry about Jason (Ryan Kwanten), who has been claimed by vampire-in-command, Violet. Violet swears to Jason that, as a good Catholic girl, she just wants to feed on him, and will protect him from all others – she doesn’t share, and she likes to be wooed. In other words, for now, she just wants his blood, but if he wants sex, he’s going to have to work for it. Huh.

In the men’s gen pop, Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) grabs a bottle of Tru Blood and sits next to James (Luke Grimes). In an ill-advised move, James takes pity on vampire Steve and tells him not to drink the Tru Blood. And that, my friends, was a fatal mistake.

Once Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) arrives at the camp, determined to carry out the late Governor’s vision of eradicating the vampire race, she learns that her ex is refusing to drink the Tru Blood. Needless to say, she breaks him easily, and he tells her that it was James who told him not to drink the Hep V blood. Sarah left, but not before pointing out that spineless Steve was so worthless, he couldn’t even run as fast as vampires are scientifically engineered to. Ouch! Poor, treacherous Steve is led to a white circular room with James – the same room Bill saw in his vision. Pam, Tara, Willa and Jessica soon join them, and Jessica tells the other vamps what they all fear: they are going to meet the sun in this room.

As if we needed more proof of just how insane Sarah Newlin is, she literally killed a woman by stabbing her with a stiletto heel while hungry vampires gnawed at the poor woman’s bloody face. Gross, yet, effective.

Over in Bon Temps, Sookie makes a last ditch effort for a normal life and goes to see Sam. She shows him her light, and ponders the permanency of their supernatural selves. Sam is confused at best, and asks what the hell she’s talking about. Sookie admits to him that she always thought they would end up together eventually. Sam is not having it. He’s angry; she knew how he felt about her but always passed him over for dangerous vamps, and now she’s too late. Nicole is pregnant. Sookie offers him an awkward congratulations and leaves.

Resigned to her fate as Warlow’s vampire-fairy bride, Sookie puts on her black dress for Terry’s funeral and goes to pay a visit to her parents’ grave. She tells them that she would rather live for eternity as a vampire than die and be buried beside them. Bill meets her at the cemetery and together they go to fairyland. Alas, they’re too late: Warlow is unconscious, blood dripping from his throat. Eric had already been there…

True Blood continues with its penultimate episode, “Life Matters,” next Sunday at 9 P.M. on HBO.
