Tracy Morgan has remained in critical but stable condition since the tragic car accident last Saturday that claimed the life of his friend and fellow comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair.
Morgan is said to be showing signs of improvement nearly a week after he was transported from the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury Township to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. "Today was a better day," Morgan’s publicist told CNN Thursday, adding that the medical team caring for the 30 Rock star is optimistic about his progress.
In the accident that occurred when a tractor-trailer rear-ended and flipped over the limo bus Morgan was traveling in, the comedian suffered a number of injuries. Among his injuries were a broken femur, broken nose and several broken ribs. He is expected to remain in the hospital for several weeks.
Comedian Ardie Fuqua and Morgan’s personal assistant Jeffrey Millea are still being hospitalized for their injuries as well, though their status is unknown. Another contemporary of Morgan, Harris Stanton, was also injured in the accident, but was released from the hospital earlier this week.
Police have charged Wal-Mart truck driver Kevin Roper on one count of vehicular homicide and four counts of assault by auto. Roper turned himself into authorities and was subsequently released on $50,000 bail. He pleaded not guilty to all charges in a New Jersey courtroom on Wednesday. On Twitter, Roper ranted that had he not hit a celebrity, he would not be facing criminal charges for the “horrific” accident in which “we lost a precious life.” Roper also pointed out that he was neither drunk nor high at the time of the accident.
