Tory Lanez Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For Shooting Megan Thee Stallion In The Foot

Tory Lanez was sentenced to ten years in prison on Tuesday after being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion by Judge David Herriford at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

After the decision was delivered, Lanez read a statement. According to journalist Meghann Cuniff, “He said he still cares about Megan. He called her ‘someone I still care for dearly to this day’ regardless of what she may think of him. He said, ‘The victim’s my friend.’ He talked about bonding with her over the loss of their mothers.”

The rapper’s sentencing was delayed numerous times while he was seeking new legal counsel and additionally filed for a new trial, which was denied. The sentencing was scheduled to be on Monday morning, but instead, the judge allowed statements and letters to be read in court.

This included one statement written by Meghan where she asserted that she has “not experienced a single day of peace” since she was shot. Other witnesses asked the judge to not give Lanez a harsh sentence. Lanez’s father, Sonstar Peterson, and his 6-year-old son, Kai Lanez, wrote letters in support of him as well.

Pop star Iggy Azalea even wrote a letter to the court, which she later went into detail on X. She explained that the letter was supposed to stay private and that she was “told this was for a judge only.” Additionally, she explained, “I am not in support of throwing away ANY one’s life if we can give reasonable punishments that are rehabilitative instead. I support prison reform. Period.”

Lanez was found guilty back in December 2022 of three felony firearm charges, which includes discharging a firearm with gross negligence, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and assault with a semiautomatic handgun. The incident occurred in July 2020 after Megan was shot in the foot at a party at Kylie Jenner’s home.

At the time of his initial trial, Lanez was facing up to 22 years in prison and possible deportation. Megan recalled the traumatic event last April. “All I hear is this man screaming. And he said, ‘Dance, b—-.’ And he started shooting,” she told Gayle King. “He shot a couple of times. And I was so scared.”

“He is standin’ up over the window shooting and I didn’t even want to move,” she continued. “I didn’t want to move too quick ’cause I’m like, ‘Oh, my God. If I take the wrong step, I don’t know if he’s gonna shoot something that’s, like, super important. I don’t know if he could shoot me and kill me.”

During the trial, Megan testified about the mental and physical toll the shooting had on her. “I can’t even be happy,” she told the court. “I can’t hold conversations with people for a long time. I don’t feel like I want to be on this Earth. I wish he would have just shot and killed me if I knew I would have to go through this torture.”

The media coverage only worsened the situation for Megan. “Because I was shot, I’ve been turned into some kind of villain, and he’s the victim. This has messed up my whole life… This whole situation in the industry is like a big boy’s club… I’m telling on one of y’all friends, now you’re all about to hate me.”

Megan did not attend Lanez’s hearing for his sentencing, but a pre-written statement was read by prosecutors on her behalf. Megan emphasized that Lanez needs to be held fully accountable for what he did to her and the trauma she endured.

“I struggle with being present. After everything that occurred I cannot bring myself back to being in the same room with Tory,” Megan wrote. “I’ve been tormented and terrorized. He paid bloggers to disseminate false information, he treated my trauma like a joke when I could’ve been dead. He blamed the system, he blamed the press, and as of late he is using his childhood trauma to justify his actions.”
