GRETA LEE BIOGRAPHY: CAREER

In 2007, Lee made her Broadway debut playing high-achieving, multilingual honor student Marcy Park in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Later, in 2010, she graced the stage as Dorine in La Bête. Lee’s remarkable talent led her to portray captivating characters such as Soojin in Girls and Homeless Heidi in the comedy/drama High Maintenance. She also made memorable guest appearances in popular television series, such as New Girl and Wayward Pines. Sharing the screen with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, she co-starred as Hae Won in the comedy film Sisters, before making her grand appearance as Maxine in the comedy/drama series Russian Doll.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Lee was asked whether or not she identified with her character Stella Bak in Apple TV’s drama/comedy series The Morning Show.

“I mean, let’s be clear. She’s much smarter than I am, ” Lee chuckled. “I mean, she is a brilliant wunderkind who, as you mentioned, she’s drawing from her previous experience of having run this online media company that was mostly catering to Gen Z and millennials. And now she’s tasked with coming in to UBA, which is a very different corporate environment and possibly rehabilitating the workplace and its toxicity and its inequity, the gender and race and also generational inequities. So, it’s a lot for her to take on and we get to see whether or not she’s able to pull it off and in what way.”

Lee then went on to discuss what it was like working with fellow crew member Billy Crudup.

“You’re really putting me on the spot because there have been so many. I mean, that’s the thing with the show,” Lee stated. “These are people that I have admired and loved for so long. To come on to the show, that is a beloved and fully established show, and to play this character that is directly at odds with all of them, I mean, that was a real trip to figure out every day at work. I love everything that I get to do with Billy. There’s a certain athleticism to the show. I think I can describe it as sort of like a treadmill. It’s set at level 10 that you’re just dropped on and you better start sprinting. And you know, I really love those moments where we get to play ball and it becomes like a sporting event.”

Lee then revealed what it was like having Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston as mentors while expressing her extreme gratitude and appreciation for both of them.

“It’s everything,” Lee proclaimed. “I mean, I do not take it lightly. I don’t take it for granted. It matters. It matters to have better representation, whether it’s gender or race. You can feel the quality of the environment and what kind of place it is to work having people like Jen and Reese, and I think that’s something that was a good lesson learned for me doing this. And I hope that it really just is the beginning of having more women in power.”

At the end of the interview, Lee recalled a piece of advice that Witherspoon gave her.

“You just do you and continue to show up as yourself and do the best you can in the time you’re given.”
