The Top Gun: Maverick trailer has been released, but people at San Diego Comic-Con had a first look.

Tom Cruise showed up at the event as a surprise and revealed the trailer for the long-awaited film.

“Everything you see here is for real,” said Cruise. “I have that lovin’ feeling,” he added after the crowd’s applause, referencing the original film’s use of the song “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling.”

Cruise reprised his role as the ace pilot, Peter “Maverick.”

The trailer includes the actor taking off in a jet and flying through a snowy canyon and riding a motorcycle with his signature grin.

The sequel was made long after the 1986 blockbuster.

“They’re using some technology on this that is never been seen,” said John Hamm, who told Collider that the film is being shot in the highest resolution possible. “We’re shooting the movie, in I think, 6k. So it’s incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical. There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs… I’ve seen some of the footage, it is out of this world.”

The film is set to be released next year.
