Tom Brady went down clutching his left knee during the New England Patriots' joint scrimmage with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday.
Brady’s arm was in motion to throw the ball out of the pocket when Buccaneers defensive end Adrian Clayborn rushed the line, barreling into Nate Solder, the Patriots left tackle. Both Clayborn and Solder crashed to the ground, with Solder smashing into Brady’s leg in the process.
Following the play, Brady remained on the ground, rocking on the turf with his knee in his hands. After a time, the New England quarterback was able to get up on his own and limp off the field without assistance. Brady remained on the sidelines for a bit, but returned to the field to get in on a few more plays.
Feeling less that 100%, Brady ultimately took himself out of the scrimmage and chatted with Patriots head coach Bill Belichek. He then left the field with a few trainers to have a more thorough examination. After undergoing an MRI, it was found that Brady had no structural damage to his left knee, an insider told USA Today. The injury has apparently been ruled a mild sprain.
Brady had reason to be cautious, as he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the Patiot’s 2008 season opener and had missed the rest of the season.
