Tina Turner Says She Forgives Ike Turner For Abuse
Tina Turner says that she has forgiven ex-husband Ike Turner after years of abuse.
“As an old person, I have forgiven him, but it would not work with him,” Turner told The Times. “He asked for one more tour with me, and I said, ‘No, absolutely not.’ Ike wasn’t someone you could forgive and allow him back in.”
The couple met when she was 16 years old and was coaxed into joining his band when she was led to believe she had no other options but him. “I felt awful. I didn’t know how to say no because I needed the work,” Turner said. ”I think I wasn’t educated to handle that.”
The pair had a successful music career releasing top charters such as “Proud Mary,” “Nutbush City Limits” and “I Want To Take You Higher.”

Despite their success, the relationship turned violent. “There was violence because he had this fear that I was going to leave him,” she said. “The other women, because I didn’t love him that way… the other women weren’t so bad, but it was the constant, constant ill-treatment.”
They stayed together for 14 years, but Turner left him after a brutal fight in a Las Vegas limousine in 1978. Afterward the singer turned to rock and roll. Her comeback album earned 12 Grammy Awards, and she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
She found love in 1985 when she met German music executive Erwin Bach. The couple married in 2013 and currently live in Switzerland.
