Tina Fey and Jane Krakowski were among the famous faces who showed up at the Voices For The Voiceless event Stars for Foster Kids at New York City’s St. James Theater Monday night.
The Stars for Foster Kids event, organized by actor-musician Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley, raised funds for non-profit You Gotta Believe, which works to help foster kids aged 16 and over.
For her part, Krakowski hit the stage at the St. James Theater to perform “Don’t Cry Out Loud.” Interjecting in between lines of the song, Fey cracked, “Don’t cry out loud? Terrible advice. I think Peter Allen and Carole Bayer Sager were day-drunk when they wrote this song.”
Glee’s Darren Criss, who is currently starring on Broadway in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, also hit the stage, performing “Close to You” by the Carpenters. Two women shelled out $30,000 in a bid to get up on the stage while Criss sang. One of the women sent her 7-year-old daughter up. “Thank you,” he told the girl after singing the classic song. “That was for me.”
Fey and Krakowski’s the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt costar Tituss Burgess performed Monday night too, as well as Megan Hilty and Eden Espinosa. They all performed songs selected by the You Gotta Believe kids.
