Tim Lambesis, the frontman for Christian metal band As I Lay Dying, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, after he allegedly solicited an undercover detective to kill his wife who had recently filed for divorce.

The San Diego Sheriff’s department released a statement entitled “Murder for Hire Plot Foiled” that read, “Information came to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department on May 2 that Lambesis was soliciting another individual to kill his estranged wife, who resides in Encinitas.

“The investigation culminated this afternoon [Tuesday], when Lambesis solicited an undercover detective to kill his wife. He was then arrested, transported to the Encinitas Station, and booked into the Vista Detention Facility,” the statement added.

As I Lay Dying, who formed in 2000, went on to release six albums, including An Ocean Between Us in 2007, which reached No. 8 on the Billboard charts and featured their Grammy-nominated track “Nothing Left.”

In recent weeks, As I Lay Dying had been touring in Asia and was set to go on a cross-country tour with fellow metal band Killswitch Engage at the end of May. On Monday, just a day before his arrest, Lambesis tweeted, “Goodbye China. I’ll be home in about 15 hours.”
