‘The Voice’ Recap: Tamara Chauniece, Jacquie Lee And Matthew Schuler Give Powerful Performances

The Voice aired its second and final night of live playoff performances. Teams Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera took to the stage, with contestants Tamara Chauniece, Jacquie Lee and Matthew Schuler’s performances shining just a bit brighter than the rest.

Before the playoffs began, Aguilera once again opened up the show with a performance. She sang “Say Something” with the indie/pop duo A Great Big World.

First up for the night's live playoffs was Green’s Amber Nicole, who sang season three winner Cassadee Pope’s “Wasting All These Tears” with added soul and falsettos that lent themselves to a strong performance, albeit with a few missed notes.

Jonny Gray performed next, singing the difficult “Bittersweet Symphony” by The Verve. He gave an eerie performance that had his coach moving along with the words.

Chauniece, who seems to be one of Green’s favorites, boldly sang the iconic and notoriously difficult “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. Chauniece proved herself a pro with an immensely powerful and enjoyable performance.

Typically raspy vocalist Kat Robichaud went softer for her first live performance, singing an emotional “She Keeps Me Warm” by Mary Lambert. With this performance Robichaud proved that she can move between gritty and soft with ease.

Indie contestant Caroline Pennell finished off Team Cee Lo, singing “We're Going to Be Friends” by The White Stripes. She appeared her most comfortable on stage and gave a sweet performance.

Josh Logan took a risk and put his own funky twist on “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, a duo that consists of Coach Cee Lo and Brian Joseph Burton (also known as Danger Mouse). He successfully got Green dancing along in his seat.

Olivia Henken, Aguilera’s country singer, gave Katy Perry’s recent pop chart-topper “Roar" a twangy twist. Henken clearly had a ball on stage, a fun that was infectious.

Stephanie Anne Johnson, who went from Team Christina to Green and back, sang a compelling rendition of Ray Charles’ classic “Georgia On My Mind.”

Schuler performed another female vocal, and a surprising choice – Miley Cyrus’ most recent single, “Wrecking Ball.” He sang a passionate rendition of the hit, giving the rest of his team a powerfully emotional performance to compete with. The other three judges praised his performance and cursed that he wan't on their teams.

Lee closed the night with the Screamin' Jay Hawkins hit “I Put A Spell On You.” Her strong voice continued to soar beyond her years, sounding like one that belongs to a woman decades years older than the 16 year-old singer herself. Her youth only became evident when she excitedly bounced at the end of her performance.

Tune into The Voice Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. for the live results show.
