The Voice season 6 was finally narrowed down to the top 20 on Monday night, with the last night of the second round of battles, and marking the end of the pre-recorded performances.
To kick it off, Clarissa Serna and Dani Moz of Team Shakira had to battle it out with either “Perfect” by Pink, “The Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga or Kelly Clarkson’s “Catch My Breath.” The girls go with “Perfect,” and, though they appear evenly matched in rehearsals, during the battle Dani steals the spotlight. The judges are pretty unanimous in their support of Dani, and Shakira sent Clarissa home.
Team Adam Levine members Dawn & Hawkes were next, battling it out against Kat Perkins with KT Turnstall’s “Suddenly I See.” It’s tough for Kat to go up against a duo, especially with such an underwhelming battle song. Kat did have one huge advantage: she was free to move around the stage while Dawn & Hawkes stayed stationary with their microphone stands. Kat impressed judges Blake Shelton and Usher, who both threw their support her way and ends up winning the battle.
Melissa Jimenez and Music Box from Team Usher were next. It was a tough battle with Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire,” but in the end Usher decided to send Music Box home and kept Melissa Jimenez to move on to the next round.
Team Blake was up next, with Kaleigh Glanton and Ryan Whyte Maloney going up against each other in an emotional battle. Ryan and Kaleigh work well together and sound great singing Rascal Flatts’ “Easy,” but only one can be the winner and Blake chose Ryan, sending Kaleigh home.
Jake Barker and Brittnee Camelle from Team Adam are next, and what a pair they are. In rehearsals, Jake suggests that they could do “Beauty and a Beat” by Justin Bieber, but Brittnee is less than amused. The pair wind up going with Usher’s “Climax” after nixing “Beauty and a Beat” and Jesse McCartney’s “Beautiful Soul.” Jake is excited to show off his falsetto, and the battle is pretty intense, with both Brittnee and Jake hitting the high notes. Brittnee dominates with her belts, but the judges are all fans of Jake’s and Adam ends up declaring Jake the winner.
The final battle of the night came courtesy of Team Usher, with Madilyn Paige and Bria Kelly singing The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand By You.” The girls are both strong vocally, and Usher has a tough choice, but ends up picking Bria as the winner, leaving Madilyn free for Blake to steal! So, Madilyn is now a transfer to Team Blake.
