Nelson Thomas, a star on the MTV reality series The Challenge, underwent a foot amputation one year after his near-fatal car crash.

Thomas, 35, sustained several injuries in March 2023 after he drove under the influence. The amputation was the result of his right foot not healing properly following the initial crash.

In March 2023, Thomas was pulled out of a car on fire by Minnesota Vikings’ K.J. Osborn in Austin, Texas. He suffered an ankle injury during the accident and underwent numerous surgeries.

Thomas shared images of his recovery process on social media. In a TikTok video showing his amputated foot getting wrapped by nurses, Thomas wrote, “I’m truly blessed!”

The video also shows Thomas in good spirits after his operation. He also joked, “At least they let me keep my good foot, right?”

Thomas isn’t letting the amputation get in the way of his fitness journey. The reality star said he has plans to compete in the Paralympics this year if he stays on top of his recovery process.

“I’m already talking to a coach about the [Paralympics] on August 24.”

His doctor said it would be a “miracle” but has high hopes for Thomas.
